Introduction

Walter Sisulu University is a multi-campus, comprehensive university, with its seat at its Nelson Mandela Drive campus in Mthatha. The university has four campuses in Mthatha, Butterworth, Buffalo City and Queenstown, which are headed by Campus Rectors. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR (PEROMNES 6 / 5)

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine wishes to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced employee to assist in teaching, leadership and research within the division of Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics (MOP).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • PhD in Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics or related field
  • Registered as a Medical Orthotic and Prosthetic with HPCSA or equivalent

Experience:

  • A minimum of 8 – 10 years teaching and clinical experience (combined) as a Medical Orthotic and Prosthetic in a tertiary institution
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of insights into the field
  • Peer reviewed as a specialist in the field and a potential to make a substantial contribution in the field
  • Ability to supervise research at postgraduate level and to develop research capacity
  • A substantial number of conference papers, peer reviewed publications or other acceptable research outputs.

Key Performance Areas

  • Teaching MOP students including clinical supervision when allocated in different areas of clinical practice
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching, research and community engagement.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, advising and directing undergraduate and postgraduate students, performing service to the Department, and the University.
  • Design learning materials and programmes
  • Able to initiate, manage and supervise research
  • Participation in departmental administrative activities including representing the department in faculty and university structures and external committees
  • Teach research methodology to undergraduate and postgraduate students within the Faculty.
  • Participate in hospital and community committees dealing with rehabilitation of patients and clients.
