Duties & Responsibilities

  1. 5 Years post relevant trade test experience i.e. Mechanical – Must have strong technical expertise and must be hands on.
  2. 5 years Supervisory experience. Must have strong supervisory experience with the ability to delegate tasks and hold subordinates accountable.
  3. Must have experience in a Manufacturing environment with Preventative and Predictive maintenance experience. Must have a proactive culture.
  4. Candidates will be expected to reside close to the factory i.e. not more than 20 to 30 kms since they will be expected to perform 24/7 standby.
  5. Factory based Durban North

Preference will be given to candidates with a N6 or higher.

  • Supervision and technical support of Fitters, Boiler Maker, Mechanical Assistants, apprentices and contractors in their respective functions during all shifts of duty, breakdowns and planned overtime. Efficient management of the Mechanical department resources to ensure compliance to the Planned and Preventative maintenance system and that all tasks that are assigned are completed within allocated time frames as well as ensuring that their workmanship is of a high quality and standard and that all plant equipment is fully functional upon completion of each task and that no premature failure of this equipment occurs subsequent to the intervention.
  • Responsible for the capacity planning of all staff in the Mechanical department by ensuring that all Works Orders (Corrective, Planned and Preventative Schedules) are completed within the allocated time frame and that all staff are optimally utilized.
  • Ensure compliance of the Company’sIsolation and Lockout procedure, Safe Work procedures and the OSH Act 85 of 1993  as well as the general safety of employees  on the team, contractors and that of those impacted by any maintenance activity performed.
  • Perform the duties and accept the legal appointment of  ‘GMR 2.7 (Asistant Supervisor of Machinery) ‘, as per the OSH Act 85 of 1993 to ensure a safe working environment for all employees working on and operating machinery in the factory and site.
  • Responsible for the legal compliance of all lifting equipment lifting tackle,  as per Section 18 of Driven Machinery Regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993.
